Statistical Inference

About the course

Statistical inference is the process of generating conclusions about populations or scientific truths from noisy data. Without statistical inference we simply live within our data. With statistical inference, we try to translate data into new knowledge.

This course presents the fundamentals of inference in a practical approach for getting things done. Upon successful completion of this course, students will understand the broad directions of statistical inference and use this information for making informed choices in analyzing data.

After this course, students shall have skills to - Have a conceptual understanding of the unified nature of statistical inference. - Interpret results correctly, effectively, and in context without relying on statistical jargon. - Critique data-based claims and evaluate data-based decisions. - Use statistical software (R) to summarize data numerically and visually, and to perform data analysis.
